Up and Coming: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Today, Librarian M has a rollicking adventure that we cannot wait to get our hands on:

Release date: June 27, 2017

Lord Henry Montague has been kicked out of one of the finest schools in England and now he’s embarking on a Grand Tour of the continent with his best friend, Percy, with a stop to drop his sister, Felicity, off at finishing school. Henry thinks he’s off to have the time of his life, but it turns out his father has engaged someone to take them to a bunch of musical events and lectures instead of partying. It looks like the whole thing could turn out to be a huge bore, but scandal and adventure ensue after Henry steals what he thinks is just a trinket from Versailles. It turns out to be a little box housing a huge secret and the three travelers find themselves in huge trouble.

Lee uses her 18th century setting to address issues prevalent then and today including: racism, homophobia, and misogyny (Felicity would like nothing more than to study medicine instead of going to finishing school). That may all sound kind of heavy, but Lee balances it all out with delicious intrigue and the plot flies. You need this book in your life!
