Up and Coming: The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

Release date: April 11, 2017

The summer before her senior year Molly has a ton going for her. She has a new job at a trendy shop in her Takoma Park neighborhood. She's a Pinterest queen who is unstoppable in the craft department. But, the only thing her twin sister Cassie and their best friend Olivia seem to care about is that Molly has had 26 crushes and 0 relationships or kisses.

When Cassie starts a new relationship of her own, she becomes even more convinced that Molly needs to stop hiding from rejection. But Molly isn't sure that this is what she's been doing or that there's any point in pursuing her crush, Will, when she is positive he is out of her league (even if her friends insist they'd be perfect together).

With a summer suddenly full to the brim of wedding planning for Cassie and Molly's moms and long shifts at the shop, Molly doesn't have a lot of time left over for pondering her lack of romantic opportunities.

With all her friends and her sister paired up, Molly can't help feeling left out. But is she brave enough to attempt to turn crush #27 into possible relationship #1?

The latest from Becky Albertalli gives us a main character who is so kind, funny, and real that you will want her to keep narrating her life to you! Albertalli gives us a cast of characters who have different body types, orientations, and backgrounds and every one of them is someone you'd like to spend the day with. There are fights and things get awkward, but it all is written in such a warm way that it really feels like friendship and family. If you loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda or are a Nina LaCour fan, this book is not to be missed.
