Spotlight on Graphic Novels: Jughead: Volume One by Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson

Jughead: Volume One by Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson

Everyone knows Jughead is a man with a plan. And that plan is normally to have a stomach full of hamburgers and a brain full of video games. When all goes to plan, he is a happy man with a keen insight on the daily problems of his best friend Archie.

But when a new principal gets in the way of Jughead's quest for happiness (by changing the school menu and getting his gaming privileges revoked), he fears there is something much more dastardly afoot. Now he needs to get some supporters who believe him. Unfortunately, his tendency to daydream and imagine more exciting adventures for his day-to-day life (like being a secret agent from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E) do not help him when he needs to convince his friends that there really is something underhanded going on with the administration.

Jughead is a smart, sarcastic narrator but also a super loyal friend. This is the first volume in the companion series to Archie and features lots of call outs to the Mark Waid (Fiona Staples, Annie Wu and Veronica Fish) comics. This is a fun, fast read that's full of fun day dreams that send the reader out of Riverdale and to Westeros, a pirate ship or a superhero hideout. But wherever Jughead takes you, it will be a trip!
