Golden Boys by Sonya Hartnett

Librarian M has a book for readers to sink their teeth into:

Golden Boys by Sonya Hartnett

When a family with two boys and a plethora of stuff to play with--including fancy bikes, skateboards, a model train system, and a pool—moves into the neighborhood, the local kids are immediately attracted to them. Freya and one of her brothers, Syd, are especially drawn to the newcomers. They desperately want to escape their home life, where they never know if their dad will come home sober and their mother is burnt out with housework and childcare.

Another of Freya’s brothers, Declan, and one of the new boys, Colt, know that there is something off with Colt’s family. The father seems like an upstanding citizen, but there’s something a little sinister about him. Small moments lead up to a confrontation between the two fathers and the kids learn a little about how the adult world works.

For readers looking for something subtle and challenging.
