A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

Librarian M takes a look at a new take on a classic detective:

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

Jamie Watson is a descendant of John Watson. When he finds himself at the same boarding school as Charlotte Holmes, descendant of Sherlock, it is only a matter of time before they find themselves embroiled in a mystery. After one of their fellow students is murdered, both Jamie and Charlotte are immediately under suspicion. Although Charlotte is difficult to work with and can be very strange, Jamie sticks by her to help her solve this increasingly convoluted case.

Charlotte is a very intriguing character. Although she seems very put together, she is actually kind of a mess. Jamie is a good counterpoint to her. I would definitely read more mysteries starring these two.

Even if you are tired of Sherlock Holmes spinoffs, I encourage you to give this one a try if you like mysteries. Charlotte is a fresh take on an old story.
