Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

Our resident award predictor, Librarian M, is throwing her weight behind one of the NBA finalists:
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

One day, Nimona shows up in the lair of Lord Blackheart and declares herself his sidekick. At first Blackheart is not enthusiastic about this turn of events, but she eventually grows on him and they become a pretty good team. Blackheart is out to defeat his nemesis, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and take down the Institution of Law Enforcement. With Nimona at his side, his evil plans can’t fail!

At first this is a standard revenge plot, but it soon starts to morph into something more and you won’t be able to stop turning the pages until you get to the end. So, the plot is great, the art is gorgeous, and Stevenson has been shortlisted for the National Book Award. What are you waiting for? Read it ASAP!
