Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Simon is a teen who loves to act on stage, but is sick of acting in the rest of his life. He lives for the spotlight and those perfect nights when you just click with the rest of your cast AND the audience.
But, off stage, the only person he really lets see behind the character he's stuck pretending to be is Blue. Blue's a boy who he knows goes to his school, but whose real identity remains a mystery to him. Blue gets to know his secrets, but Simon wishes he also got to hold his hand.
This is a little bit of a cheat, because we bet that Simon already watches this show, but we couldn't resist.
Glee was on for so long, that some of you who are now in high school maybe missed the early seasons. But, in season one, there were a lot of characters on the show who might relate to some of Simon's situation. They also are not comfortable showing the real versions of themselves to their friends. Whether it's Finn, the football player, who secretly would like a turn as leading man. Or, Kurt, who, especially in season one, has a pretty hard time figuring out just who he thinks he is, let alone who he wants everyone else to see him as.
These similarities don't even take into account the love story between Kurt and Blaine: one that's almost as sweet as what's building between Simon and Blue...
