Simon Week: Radio Post - "I Couldn't Be Your Friend" by Tegan and Sara

On Friday, we've asked author, Becky Albertalli to do an interview with us. We're in LOVE with her book Simon vs. The Homo-Sapiens Agenda! So, the rest of the week will be full of posts devoted to it.

"I Couldn't Be Your Friend" by Tegan and Sara

The thing about getting closer to someone you like as more than a friend, is that at some point you have to decide if it's worth the risk to try to turn the relationship into something more. That can be a super scary choice to make. But, sometimes, like in this song, there isn't a choice. The feelings are so strong, they have to make themselves known. Otherwise, you might explode.

For Simon in Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, he's been getting closer and closer to a boy he doesn't know if he's even met in real life. He may not know what his face looks like, but Simon knows that Blue is funny and sweet. He's sometimes the only person Simon wants to talk to when he comes home from school.

That moment of not being able to do anything but tell Blue how he really feels is fast approaching. But, if he tells Blue and the other boy stops replying to his emails, then there would be nothing that Simon could do. He'd completely lose the friendship entirely since he doesn't even know Blue's real name.

Is that big a risk worth it? You can bet Simon's going to blast this song while he makes that decision.
