(Don’t You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn

Librarian M has got a supremely strange book that she doesn't want you to miss:

(Don’t You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn

Um, what?

You may find yourself having this reaction as you read this book. But that’s ok, it’s a weird book and if you’re up for that, I think (Don’t You) Forget About Me is well worth your time.

Gardnerville is magical sort of town where people live longer and don’t get sick. It’s very hard to get to and people are not supposed to leave. Oh, and every four years the town’s teens go crazy and at least a few people end up dead.

Skylar’s sister Piper was one of the last crazy culprits and now she is in the reformatory with all the other trouble-causing teenagers. Skylar is desperate to see Piper again, but Skylar also really likes the purple pills she takes daily that keep her from remembering too much. When Skylar finally gets off the pills she starts to investigate the true workings of her town and finds out that something might be rotten in Gardnerville.

This book is dreamy and strange and explores a really interesting family dynamic (besides Piper, Skylar has a brother, a mother, and a dead father). I love when I find a truly weird book to recommend and this is the first one I’ve stumbled upon for 2014. Give it a try! And while you’re at it try these strange books:

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick (see our posts)
Far Far Away by Tom McNeal (see our posts)
