Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Katie has a perfect summer book for you with Morgan Matson's newest read:
Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Morgan Matson has a new book! You can take this to mean that it’s officially summer, because Morgan Matson knows how to write a really perfect summer read. This one wasn’t on my Top 5 because I just finished it (saving it for a summery day), but oh, it could have been.

It’s The Summer Without Sloane for Emily. Sloane and her family disappeared one day with no warning and no explanation. And when your best friend is also your only friend, the looming empty days of summer can seem rather bleak.

But a small beacon of hope arrives in the form of a list--thirteen tasks that Sloane has put together for Emily. It’s anyone’s guess as to what she’ll discover once she’s completed all the tasks, but maybe, just maybe, it will mean getting her life and her friend back.

So aside from the general summery setting, what makes this such a perfect summer read, you ask? Well, there are drive-in theatres, beaches, amazing playlists, a cheesy summer job, new friends, a road trip, a quirky family, and a very cute boy. It’s smart, it’s funny, it’s a breeze to read. And somewhere in between the kissing of strangers, sneaking around, and dancing until dawn, there’s a beautiful story about taking risks and expanding your world. You could save this one for the beach, but it goes down just as easy on a balcony on a warm June day.
