Beach Week: Neeka's Beach Read is Deliciously Trashy

At TATAL, we love a good guilty pleasure read. Teen reviewer Neeka has got one that's perfect for reading by the pool.

Trashy Teens Make for Great Reads

There are some books, movies, and television shows we love in secret. Those books whose plots are so cheesy and filled with holes that it’s quite laughable. I am putting two of these particular selections out for you to see and indulge in.

Gossip Girl by Cecily Von Ziegesar would be the obvious choice. Unfamiliar with the filthy rich and plain filthy teenagers in the Upper East Side? The series, with thirteen titles to its name, focuses on the young couple Blair Waldorf and Nate Archibald. Serena van der Woodsen, previously Blair’s best friend until she moved away to Europe, comes back unexpectedly. This causes quite a lot of drama. There to cover the petty fights that ensue is Gossip Girl, the mysterious blogger on Once every few chapters, a post on the website shows all that’s going on with Blair, Nate, Serena, and others around them. The books are quick reads-three novels can be finished in a day, and you’ll be hungry for more of the gang and their relationships.
The It Girl series is technically also by Ms. Von Ziegesar, but is really ghost-written. The series is a sort-of sequel to Gossip Girl-a spinoff revolving around Jenny Humphries, who has left the private school she attends with Blair and Serena to go to Waverly Academy. She’s determined to be popular while dealing with her self-centered roommates. One of these roommates, Callie, has a boyfriend, Easy, who Jenny’s warming up to more than she should. The tensions rise, and it’s Jenny’s very own Sophie’s Choice(this is meant as sarcastically as possible)when she’s forced to pick either her new found popularity and Easy, who she just might love.

Ah, teenage love. Makes for good books, huh?
