Middle School Monday: Seeing Cinderella by Jenny Lundquist

Kady starts our week with one middle school student's rough first year...

Seeing Cinderella by Jenny Lundquist
Starting middle school is never easy, but when you've just gotten a new pair of glasses- truly hideous glasses that make everyone stare and giggle? Forget about it.

This is just one of the problems that Callie is facing as she starts her first year of middle school. She's also worried about her best friend abandoning her for more exciting new friends, a crush that doesn't seem to know she exists and she hasn't seen her dad in a really long time and isn't sure when he's coming home.

Soon though, Callie notices something a little off about her new- truly hideous- glasses. They let her see what everyone around her is actually thinking, regardless of what they're saying. So now she knows what her teachers are day dreaming about when they should be teaching and what the correct answer to a homework problem she didn't get might be. The glasses don't only show her good things though- she sees her mom worrying about her and her brother, her best friend, Ellen, trying to come up with excuses to hang out without her and of course, the fact that her crush doesn't even know her name.

When Callie gets the chance to play Cinderella in the school play she's confused. Ellen is the one who really wanted the part and Callie's always been super shy. Should she just let Ellen take over, like she's always done, or will her new glasses and the skills that come with them help her figure out a new way of doing things?
