The Curiosities: A Collection of Stories by Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton and Brenna Yovanoff

The Curiosities: A Collection of Stories by Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton and Brenna Yovanoff

Even though Halloween is over, sometimes you want a book which is just creepy enough to send a chill down your spine. The stories collected in The Curiosities are not horror, by any means, but the authors have woven something just a little sinister and menacing into their works.

The stories are bite sized and are all over the map in subject. There are characters at King Arthur's Court, alchemists and modern day high school students. And in the space of just a few pages they fall in and out of love, create terrible machines, bargain with vampires and more.

This is also a treat for writers. The three authors belong to a critique group called The Merry Sisters of Fate, and many of these stories appeared there first. What's unique about the collection is that it includes notes from each of the authors on each story. Some of their notes are even drawn right on top of the text. It's pretty cool to see not only the short-story, but the insights that the other writers have on it.
