Starling by Lesley Livingston

Today we are visited by the wonderful Anne from Westover Library! She's got a book full of phantoms and romance....

Starling by Lesley Livingston
If you’re like me, you put the books you are looking forward to reading on hold, and then you have to wait your turn.  But what do you read in the meantime?

I love my e-reader, and I’ve read some great books recently by browsing Young Adult fiction on the Overdrive site on the Arlington Public Library homepage.  I just finished reading Starling, by Lesley Livingston, an action packed paranormal romance blended with Norse mythology.

High school student, Mason Starling is a champion fencer at the exclusive Gosforth Academy, crushing on her classmate Calum and training for a shot at the Olympics.  One evening during fencing practice, a storm unleashes ghostly phantoms who destroy the school gymnasium  and seriously injure Calum.   In the midst of the chaos, a naked, sword-wielding stranger drops through the glass ceiling and drives the specters away.

The stranger’s name is Fennrys Wolf, and that is all he knows about himself.  He has no memories, no idea of where he came from or where he belongs.  In the days after the storm, he and Mason become inseparable, exploring New York City and looking for clues to Fennrys’ identity and reasons for the strange storm that destroyed the gym.

Mason needs good friends around her when she and Fennrys discover that her younger brother and father are scheming to fulfill a family prophecy, planning to use her against her will as the key to their conspiracy.
Starling, Book 1 in the Starling Saga trilogy, is an action-packed novel that I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the cliff-hanger ending.  I’ll be looking out for the sequel.

Starling is  available as a e-book in Overdrive and in the regular YA collection.
