The Waiting Sky by Lara Zielin

The Waiting Sky by Lara Zielin

Jane is familiar with forces of nature. She's lived with her mother, a serious alcoholic, her entire life. If you want to talk about disasters, Jane has more than her share of experience.

But this summer, Jane's tagging along as her brother Ethan follows a different kind of storm. He's a PHD student working with the TorBros, a group of storm chasers who are criss-crossing the plains, trying to gather data on major storm fronts that move through the area. Jane's along to take photographs and spend some time with Ethan, the brother her mother is convinced has abandoned them for no good reason.

Ethan's side of the story is different, of course, but, Jane can't quite forgive him for walking out on his family. She doesn't want to think about that though. Home is home, here is here. But, when home suddenly sneaks up on her life as a tornado twister, she's going to be forced to make the type of choices she's been trying so hard to avoid.

If you've ever found yourself mesmerized by an approaching storm front on television or staring out at a serious thunderstorm, it will be easy to see the attraction of the TorBros gang. Jane's story mixes a category one family life with the fast moving adventures of a summer with storm chasers and then adds a good dose of romance into the mix. If you like your realistic fiction with the chance of being sucked up into a tornado, you won't want to miss The Waiting Sky by Lara Zielin.
