The Sand Chronicles by Hinako Ashihara

The Sand Chronicles by Hinako Ashihara

Ann Uekusa had been a city girl, but now she and her mom are back in rural Shiamane, where her mother grew up. Suddenly Ann is living in a small town where everyone knows everyone and her grandparents know every move she makes too.

But, worse than that, is the fact that this move was supposed to cheer up her mom after her parents' recent divorce, but her mom doesn't seem any happier. The whole situation is stressing Ann out.

But, that small town community actually turns out to be just what Ann needs. When things get worse instead of better,  she finds herself relying on her grandparents, her new friends and especially Diago, the boy next door.

This is a really soapy and sweet shojo manga series with plenty of drama, love triangles and emotional twists. There are ten volumes in all, following Ann from childhood all the way through marriage (but, to whom?)! And they're all published, so you can read them all in one marathon, if you feel like it.

If you want to get a sneak peek at the series, Shojo Beat has an online reader that gives you a glimpse at what the art work looks like.
