Up and Coming: Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone

Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone

Release Date: October 9 2012

Anna is a runner, a mix-cd listener and a sensible girl. When she sees a boy sitting on the bleachers as she runs by and then sees him disappear, she does not believe her eyes for a minute. When the same guy shows up in her school later that day, she knows he must be messing with her.

But it turns out that he's not messing with her. Bennett is messing with time. For some reason, Bennett has always been able to time travel, some people would call it a super power, some people might call it a mutation. Whatever you call it, Bennett has been using it for a pretty cool purpose- going back to see concerts of his favorite bands.

But, of course, there are some complications and now Bennett is going to be around in 1995, the year Anna happens to be 16, for a while. Anna and Bennett have unbelievable chemistry, there's no doubt about it, but if she gets involved with someone not of her own time, what will it do to the way her life was supposed to go, you know, before Bennett fell right out of his time and into hers.

I really like time travel as a sci-fi trope. There's so many different ways that being able to travel through time can effect a person's life and the world around them as well. Anna and Bennett talk a lot about the "butterfly effect," the idea that even the smallest change to time can have wide-reaching, often unintended consequences. That's a lot of pressure to carry around, if you happen to be able to time travel.

But, this isn't a doom and gloom story. I mean, Bennett uses his ability in exactly the way a real person would want to. He travels around the world and he goes to rock shows. If I could travel back in time (but only as far back as the year I was born in) I would TOTALLY use my powers for rock and roll viewing and world traveling. And, dating a boy with a time traveling quirk can be pretty handy if what you dream about every day is seeing the world. Anna has a map on her wall with only four pins on it, the places she's been, but she desperately wants to get started seeing the rest of it.

Time travel allows you lots and lots of benefits, but of course, with the good comes lots of risks and wrinkles. Time Between Us has plenty of these as well, which will keep you turning the pages to find out if Bennett and Anna can find a way to make their romance work across time. Tamara Ireland Stone has written a very fun twist on time travel and if you have a hankering to become a bit of a time-lord yourself, you won't be disappointed.

You can check out the author's websites for lots of extras for both the main characters here.
