Up and Coming: Ask the Passengers by A.S. King

Librarian M is taking on the newest book by one of TATAL's favorite authors, A.S. King.

Ask the Passengers by A.S. King

Release Date: October 23, 2012

You all know we love A.S. King around here. We hope you’ve been loving her along with us, because she’s got another one coming out this fall and it’s just as great as her others.

Astrid Jones and her family have moved from New York City to tiny Unity Valley, PA, where Astrid’s mother has some vague notion about reconnecting with their family’s small town roots. Her mother might think that this move will fix everything wrong with the family, but Astrid knows that she is going to hate her new home. Her mother is as unreachable as ever, her dad is smoking pot in the garage every day, and her popular sister can’t understand her. Plus, now she’s stuck in the middle of nowhere.

On top of all this, Astrid is struggling with her own identity. She is attracted to girls, but reluctant to self-identify as gay. Since she doesn’t feel comfortable talking to anyone she knows she sends all her love to the passengers in the airplanes that fly over her house.

It’s easy to empathize with Astrid and root for her as she starts to take some risks and slowly begins to come into her own. Don’t pass this one up! Put a hold on it now.
