Middle School Monday: Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage

Katie's got a charming and funny summer read!

Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage

Welcome to Tupelo Landing, North Carolina, a small Southern town that is big on personality and shrouded in mystery from the moment Detective Starr walks through the diner doors. Mo Lebeau’s not too concerned, though. She’s no stranger to mystery. Her entire life has been filled with question mark after question mark since she was found by the Colonel floating down the river in a basket after a hurricane eleven years ago.

But now the Colonel is lying to the law and rumors of murder are swirling around this small town, so Mo joins forces with her best friend Dale Earnhardt Johnson III to bring the killer to justice. After all, she has experience tracking people--she’s spent a lifetime looking for her “upstream mother.” But when murder is followed by a kidnapping, Mo and Dale find that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Can Mo find a way to outwit a murderer and save the only family she’s ever known?

I can’t imagine a more perfect hot day, summer read. This book will have you laughing out loud, puzzling out the mystery, and planning a weekend trip to Tupelo Landing to spend Paris night at the diner with this quirky cast of characters and their oodles of Southern charm. You won’t be able to resist cheering for Mo LeBeau. She’s too fast a talker, too quick a charmer, and far too funny. She might be the cleverest 12 year old around, but I think readers of any age could fall in love with her.

ARGH! I just returned this book to the library because I ran out of time to read it. Guess I'll be picking it back up!
