Death Cloud: Sherlock Holmes: The Legend Begins by Andrew Lane

When young Sherlock Holmes gets sent to the countryside to spend his school break with relatives rather than with his brother Mycroft in London, he anticipates a long, boring summer.  Well, as smart as he turns out to be, he was wrong about that!

After befriending Matt,  a young village ruffian, things start unwinding quickly, with murder, mystery, and mayhem all around.  Strange characters.  Strange diseases.  What is going on?  Is it the plague?  Is is something darker than that?  As Sherlock struggles to put the pieces together, he also must take care to protect himself against fiendish villains who will stop at nothing to execute their diabolical plan . Nonstop action?  Absolutely!

If you've ever read one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes mysteries, you too may have wondered what Sherlock might have been like as a young man.  Now you don't have to wonder anymore.

And you can hear about the other books in the series from the author himself in the video below.  I don't think he gives anything away--he just tempts you with more mysteries ahead!

Nice review. I need to check out this pastiche.

I liked "The House of Silk" by Anthony Horowitz.

Cheers!
