12 Days of YA Lit 2011 (part 2)

Check out our first installment here.

Let's get rolling:

Day 9: Nine Books That Ask, "What's Next?"
In library land, they tell us that the new thing is going to be "new adult" instead of young adult-- books for people 18-25. I don't know if that will catch on, but I do know that there are more and more books about teens who are done with high school completely. Now they have to decide what to do next, college? Traveling around the world? Finding a job? There's a lot to think about and a lot of drama to deal with as well, all of which makes for some pretty excellent reading.
Day 8: Eight Books for Band Members
Virtuosity; Brooklyn Burning; Mind Blind; My Misadventures as a Teenage Rock Star
Four Seasons; Notes from an Accidental Band Geek; My Favorite Band Does Not Exist; Amplified

A perennial favorite with authors and readers, characters who can carry a tune/strum a guitar/master an instrument just seem to be the perfect tortured souls to build a YA novel around. Plug in your amp and turn these books up to eleven.

Day 7:Seven Books Against the World
Sometimes you find yourself alone on an island... or a lifeboat... or a snowdrift. In those times, it's good to know that the good people of YA have already got a book to prepare you for just this kind of circumstance. If you like books where the main antagonist is mother nature these books have plenty of elements for you to battle.
