Don't Stop Now by Julie Halpern- Video Trailer!

Don't Stop Now by Julie Halpern

After yesterday you might be wondering about this new road trip book.  Well, wonder no more!

Lil has just received a three word text "I did it." Unfortunately she has a pretty strong suspicion that those three words are the start of a lot of trouble. This girl she knows, Penny, has been talking a lot about getting away and rather than taking a trip or heading to college like Lil or any of her just-graduated classmates might do, Penny seems to want to do something drastic.... like maybe even fake her own kidnapping.

Lil, on the other hand, is not in the mood for drastic. Not even in the mood for drama. Instead, she's in the mood for a quest...
Okay, if she's being honest with herself what she's in the mood for is a little time ALONE with her friend Josh. Josh is her best friend (who Lil really wishes was more boy friend than best friend, but what can you do?) and he is the ultimate in road trip companion.  Lil has the idea that Penny is on her way West, so that's as good a direction as any for questing.

That starts off the very funny Don't Stop Now by Julie Halpern. I was excited to get my hands on this one because Halpern is also the author of Into the Wild Nerd Yonder (see our review here). Lil and Josh are very funny and also read like very real teens, they're snarky and silly and I was definitely laughing at all of their inside jokes and their roadside stops. It was refreshing to have a narrator who wasn't an uber A student or a bitter and scarred rebel, Lil was just a regular girl having some fun before the next chapter in her life. I also liked the peek into the life of Penny, which make her flakiness seem a little more justified.

Do you feel like your summer is missing a trip to the corn palace or the cheese castle? Mine really was, and it was also missing Lil and Josh. I think yours might be too.
