Be a Library Insider: What's a QR Code and Why are They Taking over our Library Displays?

If you've been to Central Library lately, you might have noticed our hot new display of "Sizzling Summer Reads."  We've got some excellent titles that might spice up your summer!

If you look a little closer though, you might notice that each of the book covers is accompanied by a big bar code.

These are called QR codes. They basically blow our minds because they are HYPERLINKING REALITY (woah!). You can stand in front of our display and, if you have a smart phone, you can use a QR Code reader to take a picture of the code and INSTANTLY be taken to a website. In this case it will take you to a book trailer.

If you don't have a smart phone (like me) you can write down the link and go check it out later. But, since we've noticed so many of you DO have them, we will be adding them to our displays when we want to link our virtual world with the real one. (See what I mean, the future is totally here).

If you keep your eyes open, you can also find our QR Codes linking to other cool stuff around the room. For instance, this one:
which will take you to this IT GETS BETTER video from author Jodi Piccoult.
