Up and Coming: Misfit

Misfit by Jon Skovron

We are big fans of Mr. Skovron here at the library. This book doesn't come out until August, but I couldn't wait to tell you about it. We'll do a reminder closer to its release date so you can put it on hold.

To look at her, you wouldn't think Jael was anything special. A girl in a Catholic School uniform with crazy hair. But the thing about Jael is, she's half demon. Her parents were one amazing full blooded demon woman and one former-monk turned religion teacher at Jael's school. Now that Jael is 16 she's about to find out exactly what it means to have 1/2 of your DNA come from a demon.

Besides the obvious problems of demon heritage, (ie: what to tell your very religious best friend when she asks about your mom) there's a very unhappy grand duke of the underworld who is not at all pleased that a half-breed like Jael has made it to her 16th birthday. While most teenagers are prepping about the SAT, Jael is figuring out how to harness all the power inside her so she is ready for an evil onslaught.

Jael is about to embark on a fast paced, action packed, battle for the right to be all demon and all human and you are going to want to go along for the fight.

In this novel Skovron has got the suspense turned all the way up. But don't think that this is the equivelant of some mindless action flick. Sure there is a Ton of action, but that doesn't mean the characters are cardboard- instead everyone has problems and issues that ring true and the dialogue is sharp and often funny. The library's advanced copy is already looking dog-eared because it's been passed around and read so quickly by everyone who picks it up.

Check out our trailer and put this book on your radar, it will be available for check out in August 2011.
