The Accidental Genius of Weasel High

The Accidental Genius of Weasel High
by Rick Detorie

This book is being sold as a book for Wimpy Kid readers who have grown into comic loving eighth and ninth graders. That's a pretty fair description, as it's about a vertically challenged (or short) freshman who can't seem to catch a break and it's full of comics showing the funny/ embarrassing things that happen to him. So if you happen to be an older reader of Jeff Kinney, take note!

Larkin is having no luck this year. He desperately wants to get a camcorder so that he can kick-start his plans to become a super-star director, but coming up with the money to pay for it is not going so well. At school he's being teased by the school bully, Dalton, who unfortunately happens to be so handsome that Larkin's best friend, Brooke has started going out with him! Bleh.  Now instead of hanging out with Brooke and memorizing famous movie lines together, Larkin's stuck hanging out with the old lady he's supposed to be helping in order to earn money towards his camcorder- not exactly the coolest way to spend his afternoons.

For the remainder of the year Larkin is supposed to be keeping a journal, or as his English teacher calls it, a "pen and paper blog." Larkin fills his with doodles and comics explaining all the embarrassing events in his life. If you are looking for a funny and quick read, Larkin's is perfect.
