An Afternoon with Sara Lewis Holmes

We have been pretty lucky to host Sara Holmes in person and on the blog before.  We're pretty big fans of her books, Letters from Rapunzel  and Operation Yes.

Every year, with the funding of our Friends of the Library, we are able to ask an author to speak to our middle school TAB students. This year we were happy to also work within the theme of Arlington Reads and have Ms. Holmes come and speak.

Here's a sneak peek at her visit:

She had the audience right from the beginning, when she told us that some of the inspiration for her book came from her family. And how the uncertainty of the lives in the characters in her book was something that they dealt with in real life, especially on September 11.

The talk went on from there to be both inspiring, fun and full of audience participation! Of course, it helps that there may have been a few push-ups! You can see more from the author's perspective here! We all went away wanting to say "YES, and..."

The Friends of the Library also purchased copies of Operation Yes for all the students who came. This was awesome because everyone got to read the book before meeting Ms. Holmes. PLUS she signed everyone's books.

It was a really fun afternoon and we are VERY thankful to both the Friends of the Library and Sara Lewis Holmes for making it so great!

Finally, you can check out the rest of the pictures from our event, click over to our Flickr slide show.
