What Do You Mean You Never Read Godless by Pete Hautman?

Godless by Pete Hautman
(submitted by Librarian M)

This is the story of a boy named Jason who doesn't truck with religion (specifically his dad's Catholicism), so he starts his own religion with the town's water tower as his new god. His Chutengodian recruits are small in number but they are a diverse bunch and even a local bully is welcomed to the fold. When everyone wants to worship in his or her own way Jason starts to lose control and his group unravels.

Religion is something that should be examined and discussed and this book is a good jumping off point.

Plus, it won the National Book Award so you can feel extra prestigious while reading.
