What We're Reading: Book Thief

Read The Book Thief all weekend long. Truly magnificent. From the annotation:

"Set during World War II in Germany, Zusaks groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing, encounters something she cant resist: books. This unforgettable story reveals the ability of books to feed the soul."

It's not just because I'm a librarian that I love a book that centers around the incredible power of words. The plots moves quickly, almost too much so when you have fallen in love with the characters. Liesel, her best friend Rudy, and her foster father exemplify the kindest and most heartfelt aspects of WWII in Germany -- an interesting point of view not often seen in English literature.
